Iguassu Falls + WYD Rio (Can be done Post-WYD as well)
July 19 Depart your city for Iguassu Falls, Brazil July 20 This afternoon enjoy your tour to the Brazilian side of the Falls. Our trip begins at the Iguaçu National Park where we will drive through the lush, subtropical vegetation of the park en route to the falls. We will take a stroll on the trail that descends down the canyon, to offer panoramic views of more than 240 falls. We will then take the glass elevator up the cliff face for an exquisite view from the upper deck. The Iguassu National Park along with its “sister” park in Argentina form the most significant remaining rainforest in the southern cone of South America which along with the waterfalls, have been declared a National Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will end the tour with a visit to the artisans fair. July 21 In the morning, we depart for your tour to the Argentinean side of the Falls. We will cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge, heading towards the Iguaçu National Park in Argentina. At the entrance, a small train will take visitors on a tour through the park, making 2 stops. We will follow the pathways to the top of the waterfalls that provide spectacularly unique views of the ‘Cataratas’, amidst the abundant nature filled with orchids, colorful birds and other wildlife. The highlight of the tour is a visit to the suspended platform at the very brink of the ‘Garganta do Diabo’ waterfall (Devil’s Throat) – the largest fall in the park. This tour highlights the Argentinean side of the Falls. July 22 Transfer to Rio de Janeiro. We will visit the Christ Statue, recently elected as one of the seven modern wonders of the world, which sits 2,300 above sea level, atop Corcovado Hill. Following a scenic drive along the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, we will arrive at the foot of the hill from where we will embark on a small train ride which climbs the beautiful mountain. Upon reaching the top, visitors will experience a panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro and discover why it is known as the “Marvelous City”! Tour also includes a drive along Rio’s famous beaches. Check into lodging July 23 Free morning and afternoon, WYD begins this evening with Mass July 24 Morning catechesis, afternoon and evening WYD events July 25 Morning catechesis, welcoming ceremony with our Holy Father July 26 Morning catechesis, afternoon WYD events, Stations of the Cross July 27 Pilgrimage to and participate in the Prayer Vigil with our Holy Father July 28 Morning Mass with our Holy Father, evening free July 29 Depart Rio for home or a post-WYD option *****Daily Mass included if you travel with a priest *****Local Masses when possible if you travel without a priest Because of limited flight capacity, groups will need to be flexible with the return date by two days.
